Claude Sonnet 5.5 rolls out across GitHub Copilot

GitHub has added Anthropic’s newest Sonnet model, version 5.5, to Copilot for general use, with access rolling out gradually. GitHub describes it as suited to bounded everyday tasks, including feature work and bug fixing. In early testing, the company says it matched Claude Sonnet 5 on coding while requiring fewer steps, tokens and tool calls, and completing tasks faster. Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users can select the model. Supported options include Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, GitHub Copilot coding agent and the GitHub Copilot app. It is also listed for github.com, GitHub Mobile on iOS and Android, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode and Eclipse. Usage-based billing applies at provider list prices. Business and Enterprise administrators can manage availability in Copilot settings. New models are enabled automatically unless an administrator disables the global default or turns off this model specifically.
