Odyssey unveils Odyssey-3, a world model it says can control robots, cars and drones

Odyssey, a startup founded in 2023 by Oliver Cameron and Jeff Hawke, announced Odyssey-3 on Sept. 15, a foundation world model it says can operate robot arms, humanoids, cars, drones and video-game agents from one pretrained backbone. The company said a public release will follow in the coming weeks.

The company describes Odyssey-3 as an autoregressive diffusion transformer trained on a large body of visual observations. The pretrained model stays frozen, and small action decoders trained on hours of task data turn its internal representations into controls for a particular machine. Odyssey has not disclosed parameter counts, dataset details or pricing.

The reported results are the company's own. Odyssey said robot-arm policies trained on tens of hours of demonstrations recovered from errors such as dropped objects; that a driving policy built from 20 hours of simulated data ran on roads in India, covering about 77 percent of the distance between safety-driver interventions managed by policies trained on real footage; and that a policy trained on roughly two hours of Grand Theft Auto V footage carried over to horse riding in Red Dead Redemption 2. Its drone test took place only in simulation. Humanoid work was done with Flexion, and Poke & Wiggle was named as a benchmarking partner.

Tech Times noted that the evaluations were run by Odyssey, without independent benchmarks. In June the company said it had raised $310 million at a $1.45 billion valuation.
