CrowdStrike announces an identity provider built for AI agents
CrowdStrike on Sept. 2 announced Agentic IdP, an identity provider meant to give each AI agent its own verifiable identity and short-lived access in place of borrowed human credentials. The company's post indicates the product is still in development.
The company's argument is that agents today mostly run under identities that were not designed for them: service accounts, API keys, or the login of the person they work for. In that arrangement, CrowdStrike said, it is hard to tell the agent from the person or to govern separately what the agent may do.
Agentic IdP is described as issuing each registered agent a cryptographically verifiable identity, with access open only to agents that are trusted and registered. Each agent and each action would stay tied to the person or workload it acts for. In place of standing credentials, an agent would get tightly scoped access brokered for it, lasting only as long as the task requires.
The announcement came in a blog post by CrowdStrike's Ryan Terry, published the same day the company announced an expanded OpenAI partnership at its Fal.Con conference in Las Vegas. The post carries a notice that unreleased features remain in development and may change, and it gives no release date.
