AIUC raises $40 million Series A to audit, certify and insure AI agents

The Artificial Intelligence Underwriting Company, a San Francisco startup that audits and certifies AI agents and pairs certification with insurance, said on September 15 it raised a $40 million Series A led by Ribbit Capital with participation from First Harmonic. Total funding now stands at $55 million.

AIUC's main product is AIUC-1, a certification standard under which an agent is tested against risks such as jailbreaks, prompt injection, hallucination and data leakage. The company says each audit covers about 5,000 risk-and-attack combinations tailored to the type of business, and SecurityWeek reported that certified systems are re-audited quarterly. Cursor, ElevenLabs, Harvey, KPMG, Lovable, UiPath and Fin carry the certification, according to the company, which also says ElevenLabs obtained an agent insurance policy backed by it. A consortium of more than 250 security and risk executives helps shape the standard.

The startup was founded in 2024. Rune Kvist is described in the announcement as Anthropic's first product hire, and co-founder Rajiv Dattani as a former McKinsey insurance partner and former chief operating officer of METR. An earlier $15 million seed round was led by NFDG. AIUC said the new money will be used to extend its audits, standards and insurance from agents to frontier models. Kvist, quoted by SecurityWeek, said many enterprise agents win approval in pilots and then stall at security review, which makes evidence of security and reliability the main bottleneck to deployment.
